בינתיים הילדים גדלו ובגרו. יוני סיים תיכון והתגיס לנח”ל. זמן קצר אחרי גיוסו פרצה מלחמת יום כיפור והוא נשלח לפאיד שבמצרים, ועברנו מספר לילות חסרי שינה עד שהסתימה המלחמה, והוא הגיע עם הגרעין שלו להאחזות קליה, ולאחר מכן עבר לקיבוץ עם אזרוחו, וזה בכלל לא היה מפתיע כשהוא היה לרפתן ולמזריע של הקיבוץ.
In the meanwhile, my children grew up and matured. Yoni finished high-school and was drafted into the Nahal army unit. A short while after his draft, the Yom Kippur war broke out and he was sent out to Faid in Egypt, and there were quite a few sleepless nights until the end of the war. He later went with his unit to Kibbutz Kalya, and I was not surprised when he became dairy worker and the in charge of the insemination.
גם רונית גדלה והתבגרה מהר, למדה במחזור הראשון של בית הספר העממי ברמת אפעל, והיתה חברה פעילה בשבט הצופים המקומי. היא סיימה את התיכון והיתגיסה לחיל הים. אולם לא עבר זמן רב כשהיא החליטה להתחתן עם עופר, חבר נעוריה, במסיבת נישואין רבת מששתתפים בכפר ויתקין.
Ronit also matured quickly, she was part of the first graduating class of Ramat-Ef`al primary school, and was an active member of the local scout group. She graduated high-school and was drafted into the navy. Not a long time passed before she decided to marry her high-school sweetheart Ofer, in a ceremony with many in attendance in Kephar Vitkin.
היא השתחררה והחלה ללילמוד הוראה בסמינר אורנים בטבעון שהוקם ונוהל ע”י דודי ,מרדכי מכפר גילעדי. הם עברו לגור בישוב החדש, אלון – הגליל, ושוב פעם באופן לא מפתיע במיוחד הם הקימו רפת חלב, ולצידה גם גידלו פרחים ליצוא. והאמת שלא ממש הופתעתי, כשיוני החליט ללמד ווטרינריה. היתי עדה לתופעה המשפחתית של בני סגל ונטיתם להשלמה ולסגירת מעגלים משפחתיים.
Upon being discharged she began to learn in the Oranim academy in Tivon, the academy was set up by my uncle, Mordekhay Segal, of Kibbutz Kephar-Gil`adi. Ofer and Ronit decided to make their new home in Alon-HaGalil, and again, not surprisingly, set up a dairy, and next to it they would grow flowers for export.
The truth is, I was not in the least surprised when Yoni decided to study veterinary science. It seemed that I was witness to a family habit of opening and completion of family circles.
יוני החל ללמד באיטליה, ועכשיו היתה לנו אפילו הצדקה לביקורנו החוזרים שם, שלעיתים גם שולבו בטיולים נהדרים.
Yoni began his studies in Italy, and now we even had a justification for our returning travels there, that often where interspersed with great trips.
ואז רונית ניכנסה להריון ולאחר הרבה ציפיות נולד נכדנו הראשון, גילעד, הבלונדיני הקטן עם עיני התכלת, שגרם לנו להמון התרגשות ולהמון סיפוק.
And then Ronit became pregnant, and after many hopes, our first grandson was born, Gil`ad, the little blondie, with blue eyes, that created much joy and feelings of contentment.

וגם יוני פגש באיטליה בחורה ניו-זלנדית, את איזבל, ותןך זמן קצר גם הם נישאו בעיר פיזה ,ובאו עם משפחת הכלה לחגוג בארץ, בחצר ביתנו.
Yoni too, met in Italy a Kiwi lady, Isabelle, and within a short time the too married in Pisa, and came along with her family to Israel to celebrate in our garden.

איזבל שכבר היתה בהריון מתקדם נישארה לגור עימנו בעוד שיוני חזר לאיטליה לסים את שנת הלימודים, והפכה למעין בתנו השניה.
Isabelle had already progressed well into her pregnancy at this point, and decided to live with us, while Yoni returned to Italy to study to complete his year of studies, in a way she became like our second daughter.
כשבוע אחרי שיוני חזר ארצה פרצה מילחמת לבנון של 1982 ומיד אחרי אריאל נולד, נכד מספר שנים, וגם הוא בהיר עם עיני תכלת,
A week after Yoni returned to Italy, the Lebanon war of 1982 began, and shortly after Ariel was born, our second grandchild, and he too was bright and blue-eyed.
אולם תוך שלשה שבועות כבר עלה למטוס בדרך לאיטליה.
והינו צריכים להמתין עוד מספר שנים עד שיוני יסים את לימודיו ב1987 והם יחזרו ארצה כדי שנוכל להנות איתו, מעבר לביקורים הקצרים באיטליה.
Though within three weeks, Ariel already boarded the plane on his way to Italy. We waited several years, until 1987, for Yoni, Isabelle and Ariel to return to Israel, and for us to be able to enjoy his company.

ואכן היה באמת נהדר כשהם חזרו, וגרו בשכנות. אריאל הלך לגן ולבית הספר ברמת אפעל, והיה מבלה אצלנו יום יום אחרי שעות הלימודים. ללא ספק שבעת ההיא נוצר עימו קשר עמוק, שימשך כך לאורך השנים.
It was great when they lived close by, Ariel would go to the kindergarten opposite our home in Ramat-Ef`al, and would spend time with us in the afternoons after his studies. There was no doubt, that a deep connection was created that would last the rest of his life.

בינתיים גם הבנות החלו להגיעו במרץ אחת אחרי השניה, עםהגיען של רעות, דניאלה, ויובל ורק אחרי מספר שנים, גידי הצטרף לחבורת הנכדים כשנולד כבר באוסטראליה.
In the meanwhile, more grandchildren were born, Reut, Daniella and later Yuval, and even later Gidi, who was born already in Australia.

כן, ב1991 יומים לפני שפרצה מלחמת המפרץ, איזבל המבוהלת עזבה את הארץ עם הנכדים ונסעה לאוסטראליה, ומשם כבר סירבה לחזור לכאן. וכך גם יוני עזב ועבר לגור שם, בתחילה בפרת ואחרי כן למלבורן והשאירו אותנו עם חלל גדול בלב, שכמובן ביקורים קצרים כבר לא יכלו למלא.
In 1991, days after the First Gulf War started Isabelle left Israel for Australia. Yoni joined her after the war, at first living in Perth, and then in Melbourne. A small void was created in our heart because of this distance and short visits never quite achieved filling it.
